Animator and CEO of Laika, Travis Knight, talks with Fandom about his new film, Kubo and the Two Strings, an action-adventure fantasy set in a mythical version of ancient Japan. (The story centers around a young man, Kubo, who's peaceful existence comes crashing down when he accidentally summons a vengeful spirit from the past. Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Matthew McConaughey) to unlock a secret legacy. Armed with a magical instrument, Kubo must battle the Moon King (Ralph Fiennes) and other gods and monsters to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known. Kubo will hit theaters August 19th.

Horror producer Jason Blum has been talking about his forthcoming Halloween movie, stating that the film will take inspiration from the first two movies rather than their sequels.When asked if the film will be a remake or a reboot, Blum said We are talking about a reboot, but mostly looking at the first and a little bit of the second movie. So were kind of rebooting, but rebooting from the early movies, not so much the later ones.And it sounds like Blum is a big fan of that original. I feel like Halloween is the ultimate scary movie he explained. I feel like they sort of went off course with it a little bit. I feel like expectations are low. Everyones expecting something they think were going to mess it up. And I love a challenge. And hopefully well get it right  Ill let audiences decide that.

With big budget superhero films, audiences have become accustomed to CG spectacle. And by the looks of it, Sabans Power Rangers is no exception. But the films young cast is quick to defend the production, noting more practical effects were employed than moviegoers might think."The spaceship: They built the whole thing in one piece, says Dacre Montgomery (the Red Ranger). Its like eight city blocks [long]. And the perimeter is green screen. I think that is relatable to the whole film. The perimeter is green screen and thats where youll be seeing the CG.OK, but what about all those massive kaiju (a Japanese word for giant monsters) battles in the film?"Even with something like the Zord, youre looking at a 50-foot flight simulator, hydraulic system, explains Montgomery. The [visuals of the] Zord is obviously going to encapsulate around that, but were sitting in a cockpit flying around. It is real. Theres so much in this film of an epic proportion that were actually allowed to have that 80-percent its real feeling.Of course, it helps to be looped into the look and feel of the film from the get-go to really drive home that believability."What was left to our imagination, the special effects team made us very knowledgeable on what it was going to look like, says Becky G. (the Yellow Ranger). So even before we got into the pod to do our Zord scenes, we had an idea of what that was going to look like. And where everybody else was in the scene. So we actually knew what the scene was play by play, and we knew what it was going to look like.
