Of all the characters on Game of Thrones, Sansa Stark’s journey has been one of the most transformative. While characters like Jon Snow and Daenerys have come a long way, too, it’s Sansa who’s had the most dramatic changes. So, what’s next for Sansa Stark in the remaining season of Game of Thrones?
When we first met Sansa in Season 1, her brothers had just brought home a litter of orphaned direwolf pups. Sansa adopted Lady, the gentlest of the bunch. That’s a fairly unsubtle way of telegraphing Sansa’s place in the hierarchy. While she’s the eldest of the Stark daughters, she’s always been the meek one. But things change…
Sansa has seen some things and it’s changed her.
At the start, Sansa naively sought nothing more than to marry King Joffrey. And we all know how that worked out for her. Having outlived one a-hole suitor she wed another, thanks to the manipulation of Petyr Littlefinger. And Ramsay Bolton was even worse.
Finally, after years of being used as a political bargaining chip, Sansa rose up and offed Ramsay in spectacular fashion with the help of his hounds. She joins Jon on the battlefield, and later confronts Baelish whom she sides with on her terms.
Will Sansa betray Jon Snow?
Sansa is now in a position of power, and she’ll have some very important decisions to make in Season 7. Will she continue her “partnership” with Littlefinger — one that might possibly lead to marriage? Baelish has already told her that he wants to essentially share the Iron Throne with her. And it would be a shrewd political move for Sansa to take this path. But hasn’t she had enough of being used as political currency?
There’s always the possibility that Sansa could betray Jon Snow. And the showrunners have definitely teased that threat. But we just don’t think it’s going to go down like that, if for no other reason than the fact that it would make a pretty unsatisfying character arc.
Here’s exactly what we think will happen in Season 7: Sansa will surely be tempted to further expand her newfound status, colluding with Littlefinger, who continues to remind her of Jon’s low birth. She’s had a taste of power, after all, and she seems to like it. Add to that the fact that Sansa feels she isn’t getting fair treatment from Jon (after saving his neck), and she’ll be really on the fence. But Bran’s going to be on a mission to spread the word now that he knows all about Jon’s true parentage. And when Sansa catches wind of it, that’ll be the moment that prompts her to back her brother’s play.
Sansa will be tested to take the selfish path in Game of Thrones Season 7, but she’ll ultimately do what she feels is right for Westeros.
