It’s a pretty safe assumption to say that we all love board games, right? I know that from my experience at shows like PAX and RTX that board games are some of the biggest draws. So when you hear about DICETINY: The Lord of the Dice from Fakedice and their Kickstarter, which promises to bring an exciting new board game to your PC, it’s hard not to take notice!
So, what is DICETINY? Apart from a much-appreciated clever pun, this upcoming PC title is one part role-playing game, one part collectible card game, and one part board game. That may seem like an odd combination at first, I admit, but once you sit down and select one of the four hero roles, you’ll discover that not only do these different aspects work well together – it’s also easy to understand.
Quite simply, once it’s your turn you roll the dice and move your character around the board for the number of spaces that correspond with the dice roll. Each turn, some sort of random event will occur – sometimes you’ll find treasure, sometimes you’ll find danger. The cards you play and how handle each situation will allow you to advance, and each time you complete a rotation around the board you’ll level up. Higher levels mean stronger monsters, and better rewards for surviving.
Before you think that you’ll be traveling along the same board, though, keep in mind that each board is randomly generated. Each game will have events placed in different locations, meaning that a space which may have been a treasure chest in a previous game is now a dungeon or monster. Once you complete the game you’ll unlock random cards, which you can then use to build a better deck to help you survive longer the next time.
A good board game becomes a sad sight if you don’t have any friends to play with. Fortunately there is enough content in DICETINY to allow you to shrug off that rule and have a fun experience. If you’re insistent, however, the local four-player co-op will let you and three of your friends gather around and try your might on the dangers that await.
DICETINY currently has two weeks left in their Kickstarter campaign, and are currently about half-way to their goal. Backers of the game can earn special perks, including copies of the game (and beta access), soundtracks, art collections, exclusive heroes, and even physical versions of the in-game cards. There is a lot more that could be yours – go on and give their Kickstarter a look over.
Of course, you can also learn about DICETINY by visiting the Official DICETINY Wiki. This fan-operated space lets you add information and update this and any other Wiki in our network.
