New Wonder Woman movie footage has been screened at CinemaCon, with a heavy focus on the romance between Wonder Woman  aka Diana Prince  and love interest Steve Trevor. Chris Pine, who plays the downed WWI pilot turned Queen of the Amazons suitor, said that the film has a Casablanca feel. We ask whether this is the right move for Patty Jenkins Wonder Woman film. Will Wonder Woman Disappoint With Its Love Story?

We've really been looking forward to Wonder Woman, not least because we're rooting for it to be a success as one of the few superhero films with a female protagonist. However, the first clip from Wonder Woman aired last night and it's safe to say it's got us a little concerned. You may have seen glimpses of the alley fight scene in trailers, but the clip that debuted on The Tonight Show gave us an uninterrupted look.While on the surface, it shows Wonder Woman kicking butt, the underlying message is that she still needs a man to step in and save the day. Yawn. Kim and Sam discuss exactly why this footage has got them riled up.

Why the New Wonder Woman Footage Has Got Us Worried

After 75-plus years of existing as a property, in 2017 Wonder Woman finally hits the big screen  and looks set to single-handedly reinvigorate the DC Extended Universe. The fourth instalment in the shared universe which began in 2013 with Superman reboot Man of Steel, Wonder Woman is an origin story. It rewinds to World War I and her first meetings with men, which begin when fighter pilot Steve Trevor crash lands off the shore of Themyscira, home to the Amazons, the race of God-created women to which Diana belongs. And yet despite its early 20th-century setting, the film is neatly anchored in the present-day DCEU by bookend-scenes that see Diana  Wonder Womans real name  receiving a delivery from Bruce Wayne of the original copy of the black and white photo. The one we first saw of her with Steve Trevor and co. in Batman versus Superman. And this ragtag bunch of misfits is the key to the films success. Like the band of roguish er rogues in Rogue One, were rooting for these guys who go in behind enemy lines all guns blazing with hope and a sense of loyalty in their hearts  and Wonder Woman by their side of course. The introduction of Ares is a bit awkward, and the villainous threat is diluted in its attempts to wrongfoot the audience but its a minor gripe amid taut action that entertains. Chris Pine as Steve Trevor provides most of the funny lines, alongside comic relief Etta Candy  played endearingly by Lucy Davis. Its a shame that Gal Gadot has to miss out on the opportunity to be funny  theres a sparkle in her eye that says shed have had great comic timing.   But were thankful for the funny lines that are there. Wonder Woman raises the bar and sets the tone for some entertaining DCEU movies to come, including Justice League and Aquaman among others.

Director Patty Jenkins shared two new clips from Wonder Woman, showcasing the Amazonian superhero jumping off brick buildings and punching a German henchman straight through a wall. When asked if people will be over comic book films soon, Jenkins told them to STFU because, "it's not just superheroes, it's universal storytelling about how to be a better person." PREACH.
