The final trailer for Star Trek Beyond, the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, is here. Created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, Star Trek returns with Fast-franchise director Justin Lin at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In Beyond, Kirk, Spock, and the Enterprise crew explore the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.

Garrett Wang played Harry Kim, a Starfleet ensign fresh out of the Academy, for seven seasons on Star Trek: Voyager. And over the course of 172 episodes, from 1995-2001, viewers watched as Wang’s gifted Operations Officer assist in navigating the starship home from the Delta Quadrant (although in the episode “Timeless,” he also accidentally destroyed the USS Voyager — twice).

However, other than taking the night shift on the bridge, Kim was never promoted beyond ensign — until now. Fandom enlisted Wang to test out the wireless Oculus Quest system, and to take the USS Aegis out for a spin in the multiplayer VR experience Star Trek: Bridge Crew. With Wang in the captain’s chair, he commands a mission in the stars, answers a distress signal, and punches a ship to warp speed. He also explains the differences between stepping into virtual reality, as opposed to the reality of acting on the Voyager set.
