We live in the age of peak comic book movies. A time almost unimaginable even a few years ago, when there were just two or three comic book movies out each year. Now, thanks to the box office successes of Marvel and DC, weve got a constant stream of comic book blockbusters to appreciate. Theres so much happening it can be hard to keep up with whats coming. So, here are 7 upcoming comic book movies, and all the reasons you cant miss them.On May 5, the interstellar a-holes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The original crew returns with a few new surprises -- Yondu and Nebula are now allies -- and they join the team on a cosmic adventure that uncovers the secrets of Peters true parentage.From director Patty Jenkins comes the next installment in the DC Extended Universe, Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot reprises her role as Diana, princess of the Amazons, in her first solo movie. Set during WWI, the story has Dianas life changed forever when Steve Trevor, an American pilot, crashes on her island home. Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 2.Get hype because Spider-Mans MCU solo joint is finally happening. In theaters July 6, Spider-Man: Homecoming follows Peter Parker as he tries to live the normal life of a high school student while moonlighting as a superpowered crime fighter. Which, if you've seen the trailers, you know it doesnt work out all that well. Things go sideways, and Tony Stark shows up to put Peter in check. Then hes caught up in a face-off against Michael Keatons Vulture -- hes awesome. So, this is all about Peter proving himself as a hero.Heres one you might not be super familiar with: Visionary director Luc Besson -- the guy who did The Fifth Element -- has the new space epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets out July 21. Valerian, starring Dane Dehaan and Cara Delevingne, is an adaptation of a groundbreaking French science fiction comic.  The effects in this movie are mind-blowing but dont forget about the story that centers on two space agents who travel to a space metropolis to confront a space villain to save the universe. Thor: Ragnarok, dropping November 3, looks to be a game changer for Marvels Thor series, with filmmaker Taika Waititi bringing a fresh visual style, and Chris Hemsworths got a new haircut. But wait theres more: This movie pairs Thor with Hulk, but not in a way you might expect. Thor must defeat the Hulk in a gladiator duel in time to save Asgard from Hela (played by Cate Blanchett) and the coming Ragnarok, which is basically Asgardian doomsday. This ones going to be IN. SANE.Justice League is coming! The DCEUs long-awaited team-up movie is coming November 17. Director Zack Snyder is making the movie, but dont freak out if you didnt like Batman v Superman, which was kind of a downer because Justice League looks like a ton of fun. Batman and Wonder Woman assemble a team that includes Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash to save the planet from certain doom -- not Doomsday, but Steppenwolf. Thats not the Canadian-American rock band, but a DC Comics villain you should google. Matthew Vaughn is making another Kingsman movie, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, once again based on the spy comic books The Secret Service by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, and Mark Strong are back, but this time were getting even more star power with Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges and more -- so, it looks like Elton John is in the movie, which if you werent already planning to see it, I feel like that should seal the deal for you. Kingsman: The Golden Circle arrives in time for the holidays on December 13.That will get you through the end of 2017, but hold on to your capes because in 2018 its gonna get even crazier on the comic book movie scene.Deadpool 2, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, maybe New Mutants, definitely Ant-Man and the Wasp, maybe a Venom movie, AND Aquaman. There’s a brand new Hellboy movie heading to theaters April 12. It’s a fresh take on the mythology originally created by Mike Mignola for Dark Horse Comics back in 1993. David Harbour (yes, Chief Hopper from Stranger Things!) is playing Hellboy in the new movie directed by Neill Marshall, best known for the cult horror hit The Descent and the director of some of the best episodes of Game of Thrones and Westworld. The film is poised to carve its own place in the Hellboy canon by adapting some of the fan favorite moments from the comics. But don’t take our word for it; Let’s take a closer look...



THE WILD HUNT

The movie’s adapting elements are drawn from stories in Hellboy’s impressive back catalog: Darkness Calls, The Wild Hunt and The Storm and The Fury. And these are the perfect stories to show audiences a new version of a character they already know and love. Interestingly, it’ll also dive into Hellboy’s origins that first appeared in the Seed of Destruction storyline. In the first issue, Hellboy was brought into our world in a blazing fire by a handful of Nazi cultists and a Russian psychic, Rasputin, as they tried to bring about the apocalypse. That’s one hell of a birthday party…

But the new film follows Hellboy’s adventures in England as he tries to stop Nimue the Blood Queen from raising a demonic army and destroying the world…Just standard superhero duties really. Nimue is played by none other than Milla Jovovich and we can’t wait to see her face off against David Harbour’s Big Red.

In The Wild Hunt comics arc, Hellboy joins a group of modern knights on horseback to hunt a gang of literal giants. It’s during his fight with the giants that Hellboy discovers some startling revelations about his own lineage that could prove to be one of his greatest weapons in beating the Blood Queen…



ONE HELL OF AN ARSENAL

Following his battle with the gang of giants, Hellboy regroups with Alice Monaghan. Played by Sasha Lane, Alice might have her own emerging set of mystical abilities that could be useful in fighting Nimue.

Considering Hellboy is always up against mythical monsters and legendary legions of demons, he needs plenty of weapons to give him the upper hand. He does have the Right Hand of Doom after all! But he may need the extra firepower, and we don’t just mean his insanely huge pistol. Luckily for Hellboy, The Wild Hunt introduces some of the Excalibur mythology - and if he can wield the legendary sword against the Blood Queen, he could have a chance at saving the world.



WHAT OTHER COMIC MOMENTS CAN WE EXPECT FROM THE MOVIE?

By cleverly weaving in elements from The Wild Hunt as well as The Storm and The Fury, fans new and old are treated to a fresh story with a lot of exciting new moments that haven't been seen before. Expect to see more of the Excalibur mythology as Hellboy and Alice travel through England to raise some hell.

The film is also picking up some characters that aren’t as prevalent in The Wild Hunt though, like Ben Daimio, played by Daniel Dae-Kim. There’s even a Nazi-hunting pulp-comic book hero in Hellboy’s life called Lobster Johnson, and he’ll be played by Thomas Haden Church. This movie really does have everything. So get ready to see one hell of a superhero!

Hellboy is in theaters everywhere and in IMAX, April 12th.
