Game of Thrones actors are getting cast in big projects left and right. They are hot commodities in the acting world. And with Khal Drogo being cast as Aquaman, some of us here got to thinking: what other roles in the DC Extended Universe would be perfect for some Westeros natives? We’ve cast our favorite picks, though we might have had a little more fun than we were supposed to.
Natalie Dormer (Margery Tyrell) – Poison Ivy
Poison Ivy is one of the DC universe’s most complex and entertaining villains. Natalie Dormer would bring her calculating, charismatic cool from her roles as both Margaery Tyrell and Anne Boleyn. Her slightly skewed smirk would bring desperately-needed charm to the DCEU. She could more than hold her own with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. I, for one, would watch an entire movie about Ivy and Harley, especially with Dormer and Robbie. Please, David Ayer, hear my prayers and give us the Gotham Sirens we deserve. [Danielle Ryan]
Alexander Siddig (Doran Martell) – Ra’s al Ghul
If Warner Brothers is going to keep going full-force into the DCEU, then we’re going to need some worthy villains. Why not one that’s proven that time and again: “The Demon’s Head,” Ra’s al Ghul? And the perfect actor to play him could be none other than Alexander Siddig. He could bring a level of authority, gravitas, and intellectual menace to the role that was only hinted at when he played Doran Martell in Game of Thrones. He could prove not only a true foe to Affleck’s Batman, but to the Justice League as well. “Tower of Babel” storyline, anyone? [Bob Aquavia]
Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark) – Mary Marvel
Michelle Fairley left Game of Thrones at the end of Season 3 when her character Catelyn Stark was killed at the Red Wedding. She’s since turned up in Season 2 of Fortitude. With Catelyn Stark’s credentials, we think she’d make a great Mary Marvel. Like Catelyn Stark, Mary has felt conflicted, operating upon questionable morals. Just as Mrs. Stark seeks revenge for the death of husband Eddard at the hands of the Lannisters, so Mary Marvel wages her own form of twisted justice. She turns to evil after losing the power of Shazam shared with her by her brother and acquiring new dark powers, before reverting to good. Both are family-orientated, both have lost family members and both are super-protective of their nearest and dearest. [Kim Taylor-Foster]
Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) – Robin/Stephanie Brown
Maisie Williams turn as Arya Stark has taken her character arc from noble young lady to penniless refugee to assassin. In Dawn of Justice, we see that the best known Robin has already fallen at the hands of the Joker. So, it stands to reason that we could use the fourth Robin (and third Batgirl), Stephanie Brown. Beyond Williams’s current popularity (which could help boost the franchise), this is an opportunity to see a Robin that’s never been depicted on film before and tell new stories. We can also tell her origin story in an organic way for spin-off films for when she grows into the Batgirl mantle. [Isaac Fischer]
Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) – The Penguin
Tyrion Lannister isn’t the only mastermind around who drinks and knows things. The Penguin is a refined, intelligent chap who also happens to be a sinister white-collar criminal. Previous film and television adaptations have made him seem cartoonish, and he’s also a little forgettable in the face of more manic nemeses like The Joker. Peter Dinklage is one of the finest actors of his era. With some clever writing, the right scheme, and a crazy gadget or two, Dinklage could shape Oswald Cobblepot into a real menace. He could bring the twisted, debonair, slow-boiling rage needed to make the Penguin a truly classic bad guy. [R.W.V. Mitchell]
Sean Bean (Eddard Stark) – Jason Todd
Sean Bean is the actor you get when you want a hell of a death scene. It’s become a self-aware joke that he dies in nearly everything he’s known for. So, why not have a fifty-seven-year-old guy play the doomed Robin? Tell me that you don’t want to see Boromir in some form-fitting tights being cradled in Ben Affleck’s Bat-arms. It would be cinema gold! Well, if he’s not going to be playing a character that is on track to die horribly, maybe they can cast him as the anthropomorphic version of the DC Extended Universe itself?
