Overlord — the new movie from producer J.J. Abrams and director Julius Avery — hits screens next month. The big-budget creature feature is set during WWII and pits American GIs against monstrous Nazis. With Game of Thrones star Pilou Asbæk playing a German commandant who is as charming as he is evil.
Asbæk spoke to FANDOM at Fantastic Fest, and revealed that he snuck a celluloid Easter Egg into the movie for eagle-eyed audiences.
“I wanted to give an homage to the ultimate German Nazi officer in Inglourious Basterds, Christoph Waltz” Asbæk explained. “So I wanted to wear his leather jacket in the film. I like those little Easter Eggs… We think it’s fun because this is a film for geeks and nerds and fans all over the world.”
You can hear how costume designer Anna B. Sheppard made that dream a reality in the above video. Director Avery also reveals how Sheppard helped him sneak some Saving Private Ryan costumes into the movie.
Overlord hits UK screens on November 7, AU screens on November 8, and US screens on November 9 – you can check out our review of the movie below.
