The Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 trailer dropped today, and it is full of goodies!

The trailer features our first look at Captain Christopher Pike, his ship (the USS Enterprise), and the season’s newest threat. This threat will mysteriously lead Michael Burnham on her own search for Spock, who we learned in Season 1 is her foster brother.

The trailer, which can be seen below, is set to the Lenny Kravitz hit “Fly Away.” It’s a fun song that amplifies all the action that is bursting from the trailer. Let’s jump into some highlights.

Meet Captain Pike

Anson Mount makes his Star Trek: Discovery debut in the new trailer. Mount plays Captain Pike, who assumes control of the USS Discovery in wake of a new threat. His takeover of the Discovery is met with questions, in particular from Saru, who was next in line to become Captain after the departure of Captain Lorca.

Pike arrives in the classic yellow Star Trek: The Original Series uniform but quickly ditches it for the Discovery blue and gold. You can also see a shot of the Enterprise in the trailer, all shiny and new.

The Search for Spock

According to Pike, various concentrations of energy have formed in the galaxy, which is why he takes the Discovery. These energy sources are related to Spock, who took an undefined leave from Starfleet.

The arrival of Captain Pike and the search for Spock, will bring this season of Star Trek: Discovery one step closer to the original series timeline. While the trailer did not feature L’Rell, the Klingon Empire, or the Mirror Universe Georgiou, showrunner Alex Kurtzman confirmed today at San Diego Comic-Con that those characters would return and their stories would uniquely tie in to that of the Discovery.

Star Trek: Discovery will return in 2019.
