Jack Bauer is done battling terrorists but a new hero is ready to take his place.
According to reports, Straight Outta Compton star Corey Hawkins has been cast as the male lead in the Fox reboot of 24, currently titled 24: Legacy. The show will follow Hawkins’s character and not gruff, iconic hero Jack Bauer (though Kiefer Sutherland may produce the show) as he tracks, foils and kills terrorists all while a ticking clock hangs over his head.
Fox has currently only ordered a pilot for the show but the project is building buzz and many see it as a sure thing. It comes on the heels of the limited series 24: Live Another Day, which brought in decent reviews and critical praise.
Hawkins will play Eric Carter, a “strong and smart former Army Ranger who finds himself pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him.” Hawkins will then start working on behalf of CTU and become very Bauer-esque. Expect a lot of screaming, gunplay and Hawkins yelling that he doesn’t have enough time.
Hawkins has been having a banner year. His starring role as Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton was one of the many strong performances in that film. He also appeared on The Walking Dead and currently has Kong: Skull Island lined up. He’s a rising star and leading his very own action show is only going to make him bigger. Let’s hope he learns a lesson from Jack Bauer and gets some sleep before his impossibly long workday begins.
