Showrunner Alex Kurtzman confirmed this news during the panel, which featured cast members Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Shazad Latif, Mary Wiseman, Wilson Cruz, Mary Chieffo, and Anson Mount.
News broke today that the grandson of legendary actor Gregory Peck, up-and-coming Ethan Peck, will play Spock on Star Trek Discovery Season 2. According to Deadline, Kurtzman welcomes Peck with open arms: “Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities, aware of his daunting responsibility to Leonard, Zack, and the fans, and ready to confront the challenge in the service of protecting and expanding on Spock’s legacy.”

This was teased during the final moments of Season 1, where the Discovery was being hailed by Captain Pike. Since the Season 1 finale, Marvel’s Inhumans actor Anson Mount will be playing Pike, who will play an important role during Season 2.
During the panel, Mount confirmed that his “Number One” will be a woman, just like Majel Barrett during Star Trek: The Original Series. Who will play this iconic leading lady? None other than the fantastic Rebecca Romijn!
Just call me “Number One!” Honored to play such an iconic character in #StarTrek Canon originally played by the First Lady of Star Trek, Majel Barrett-Roddeberry! #StarTrekDiscovery pic.twitter.com/rdpWOxBYAk

All of this news is a huge treat for Star Trek fans, as it bridges the time between Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: The Original Series. As for a premiere date, all that Kurtzman could reveal was that the show would return in Early 2019.
There will be something to tide over Star Trek fans, however: in December, fans will be treated to four short Star Trek films called “Short Treks.” One will feature Saru’s backstory.
