Get ready to invest even more time into Overwatch with Blizzard releasing the new Competitive Play mode today. According to a forum post from Blizzard Community Manager Lylira, the patch will go live to desktop players today, “while PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players can expect it sometime next week,” right alongside the much-needed Torbjörn nerf.
Overwatch Competitive mode will bring new rewards, better match making tailored to skill progression, and a set competitive season of two and a half months with a two week break between each. Because of the strange timing of the competitive release, this first inaugural Summer season will last just a month and a half before the Fall season launches later this year.
Expect to see a lot more changing coming from Blizzard on a regular basis as high-level play picks up in competitive mode. For more on what’s to come, check out Game Director Jeff Kaplan’s earlier message to the community. Good luck heroes!
