All episodes of the all-new DreamWorks’ animated series hit Netflix for streaming on Friday, June 10, so plan your weekend activities accordingly. It kicks-off with an hour-long origin story entitled “The Rise of Voltron,” which is followed by 10 shorter episodes.
The ambitious reimagining of the fan-favorite sci-fi saga promises a heavy dose of action and adventure, but there are LOLs, too, thanks to snappy dialogue and an expert-level voice cast.
The prolific vocal talent includes Kimberly Brooks (Princess Allura), Rhys Darby (Coran), Josh Keaton (Shiro/Black Lion), Tyler Labine (Hunk/Yellow Lion) Jeremy Shada (Lance/Blue Lion), Bex Taylor-Klaus (Pidge/Green Lion), and The Walking Dead‘s Steve Yeun as Keith/Red Lion. Neil Kaplan voices the evil Emperor Zarkon. Cree Summer is Haggar.

Executive Producers Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery come to the series via The Legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender. One look at any of the clips, and it’s immediately apparently that they’ve brought many from their creative team with them. Voltron is visually similar, and has a familiar dialogue rhythm that fans of Korra and Avatar will appreciate.
The team applied both old and new animation techniques, and creatively evolved the characters and classic lore to give a fresh take on Voltron that’s designed for fans of all ages.
The updated story follows five unsuspecting teenagers who are transported from Earth into the middle of a sprawling intergalactic war where they become the pilots of five robotic lions in the battle to protect the universe from evil.
