Fans got their first look at Mary Poppins Returns — starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda — during the 2018 Academy Awards.
Emily Blunt takes over the titular role from the legendary Julie Andrews. Miranda plays the role of Jack, an apprentice of Bert (Dick Van Dyke) — the chimney sweeper from the 1964 film. The sequel takes place 20 years after the first, in Depression-era London.

“In a place we hold dear, a new story begins,” according to the trailer.
In the clip, a blustery storm hits the city. Miranda helps a young child rescue his wayward kite. The rainclouds clear as Blunt’s Poppins descends, umbrella in hand.
The film also stars Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer as the Banks. Newcomers Pixie Davies, Joel Dawson, and Nathanael Saleh play their children. Meryl Streep plays Mary’s cousin, and legendary actors Angela Lansbury and Dick Van Dyke also have roles.
Mary Poppins Returns arrives in theaters December 2018.
