Lady Olenna Tyrell has been a longtime fan favorite on Game of Thrones since her introduction in Season 3, with her brutal honesty and razor sharp wit. She also confessed to her granddaughter Margaery back in Season 4, Episode 4 (“Oathkeeper“) that she was responsible for killing Joffrey Baratheon, a fact all Game of Thrones fans thoroughly enjoyed as we gave the Queen of Thorns a well-deserved standing ovation.
That fun fact came full circle in Episode 3, “The Queen’s Justice” tonight. As the Lannister forces took out the Tyrell soldiers in Highgarden, Jaime Lannister made his way to Lady Olenna, who was waiting for him. After telling Jaime he’s an idiot for trusting and loving Cersei (and called Joffrey a very fitting and choice word, HAHA), she asked how it will happen — her death. Cersei Lannister sought brutality, but Jaime brought her poison that would give her a peaceful death, and then poured it into her glass of wine.
But Olenna was never the type to go down without the last word. And so she literally chugged the poisoned wine and then told Jaime she killed Joffrey. Because she’s the Queen of Thorns and a GODDAMN SAVAGE.

Now Jaime knows Tyrion was always innocent and Cersei was just being…well, Cersei. Jaime has been ambivalent toward his sister’s motives for a while now, and this lovely bit of information might have come at the perfect time. Could this create more distance between Jaime and Cersei? It just might. And for that, we thank you, Lady Olenna. You will always be our one true queen.
