Amazon’s Jack Ryan doesn’t debut on the streaming platform until the final day of August, but fans who attended the Prime Video panel at Comic-Con this year got a surprise screening of the first episode.
Producer Carlton Cuse explained that series star John Krasinski couldn’t attend Comic-Con because he’s currently on set shooting Season 2 of the series, which was greenlit long before the first season will even be seen. But to make it up to us, he revealed the pilot episode to give fans a taste of what to expect from the adaptation of the popular Tom Clancy novels.
The episode kicked off with a flashback to the ’80s. We see kids playing in the Middle East when they notice planes flying overhead. Suddenly their entire town is bombed before we head to the present day and get our first introduction to Ryan.
He’s already four years into his CIA career, where he’s tasked with watching money markets in Yemen, and we’re quickly introduced to his new boss who doesn’t like Jack at all.
Reactions Were Mixed
The action picked up as the episode progressed, but the surprise screening drew mixed reactions from the Comic-Con crowd.
Most fans were thrilled with the pilot preview and praised Krasinski for his latest role.

Season 2 Casting Announcements
The other big news from Cuse’s time at the Prime Video panel was the announcement that the show just cast Noomi Rapace as the female lead for Season 2.
Known for her roles in Alien: Covenant and Sweden’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Rapace will play Harriet “Harry” Baumann, “a very formidable person who is also in the world of intelligence who crosses paths with Jack Ryan” in South America.
Five different movie adaptations of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan franchise have been released between 1990 and 2014, with the titular character having been played by Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine. Where will Krasinki’s Ryan stand among the other iterations? Find out when the series comes to Prime Video on August 31.
