We’re only days away from Star Trek Beyond‘s release and Paramount has decided to put out one final trailer for our viewing pleasure. If you weren’t already excited for the new film, this trailer should rectify that. Check it out:
Gotta love how badass this makes Sulu look. After all the unnecessary hubbub concerning his character, it’s great to see the pilot of the Enterprise doing his job exceedingly well.
Otherwise, there isn’t a whole bunch of new information to glean from this last look. What really comes across is how rousing Star Trek Beyond feels. The last film, Star Trek Into Darkness, felt so po-faced that it sucked away the swashbuckling, adventurous tone that the 2009 reboot established. Star Trek Beyond looks like it will get back on track in that regard.
It’s also exciting not knowing much about the film’s antagonist, Krall. Idris Elba seems to be cutting an impressive figure, and his voice is already working in that most villainy of ways.
And Jaylah! The new alien isn’t just visually cool but she continues to be a formidable force in what we’ve seen. The Enterprise could use some more alien (and female) representation on its bridge, so I hope Jaylah ends up becoming an honorary crew member by the end of Star Trek Beyond. She’s screaming for some awesome cosplay interpretations.
It’s been a tough few years for Star Trek fans. Between the offensive Star Trek Into Darkness, Leonard Nimoy‘s passing, and most recently the tragic death of Anton Yelchin, it’s understandable that Trek fans have been despondent. Thankfully, Star Trek Beyond is looking more and more like the boost of optimism we all could use. Here’s hoping it delivers on that promise.
Star Trek Beyond warps into theaters this Friday. Start practicing your Vulcan salute and brush up on your Klingon.
