So, it turns out we’re getting a brand new Star Wars trilogy from The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. Not only that, we’re also getting a live-action TV series which will air on Disney’s streaming service in 2019. Not sure if it really needs saying but let’s say it anyway: this is exciting stuff. For (almost) everyone.

Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy, for one, is chuffed to bits about Johnson tackling the new films if her statement is anything to go by:

“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi. He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

And Rian Johnson himself is also presumably over the moon — and a bit nervous too judging by this Tweet:

You would be too with that weight of expectation on your shoulders. While this all bodes well for the forthcoming The Last Jedi, fans have been turning their attention to the new announcement.

The trilogy will focus on new characters, pulling away from the Skywalker story we’ve been so invested in over the years — and speculation is already rife about what we could be getting, with fans also sharing their feelings about the news.

Here’s a round-up of some of the best reactions…
