So, it turns out we’re getting a brand new Star Wars trilogy from The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. Not only that, we’re also getting a live-action TV series which will air on Disney’s streaming service in 2019. Not sure if it really needs saying but let’s say it anyway: this is exciting stuff. For (almost) everyone.
Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy, for one, is chuffed to bits about Johnson tackling the new films if her statement is anything to go by:
“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi. He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”
And Rian Johnson himself is also presumably over the moon — and a bit nervous too judging by this Tweet:
You would be too with that weight of expectation on your shoulders. While this all bodes well for the forthcoming The Last Jedi, fans have been turning their attention to the new announcement.
The trilogy will focus on new characters, pulling away from the Skywalker story we’ve been so invested in over the years — and speculation is already rife about what we could be getting, with fans also sharing their feelings about the news.
Here’s a round-up of some of the best reactions…
This person shared actual footage of when Johnson broke the news early to a trusted porg actor:

Rian Johnson’s Star Wars Trilogy is going to be set 100 years after Episode IX and will tell the epic story of one Porg’s quest to become a Jedi and initiate a new generation of all-Porg Jedi Knights.

This person wants a huge time jump:
I hope Rian Johnson's new STAR WARS trilogy is set centuries before(or after!) the current films. Explore the galaxy.

While this person wants to explore Snoke in more depth:
Could Rian Johnson’s new #StarWars trilogy be focused on the Unknown Regions? Snoke’s home? Snoke’s origins?
(I really hope it’s not a direct prequel trilogy.)

Someone is totally out if it’s not about Obi-Wan:
Gonna be honest, if this Rian Johnson SW trilogy isnt a Kenobi trilogy then I dont care. #Kenobiorriot

Some are keen to explore the Old Republic:
My actual hope is that Rian Johnson's trilogy plays around in the Old Republic era. Hasn't been explored on film. It damn well should be.

The Last Jedi must be so good if they’re allowing Rian to do a trilogy? OLD REPUBLIC, GIMMIE IT! #StarWars

Director Max Landis weighs in with his thoughts on the whole thing:
Some people aren’t so hyped:
Hmm. This news of three more Star Wars films & a TV series makes me wonder about market saturation – the very same kind that killed off Star Trek for nearly 20 years. Careful, Disney.

Not sure about this new Star Wars trilogy with new world's and new characters. Disney milking it as predicted. It's the Glazers telling us to watch Bolton when we're United fans.
