Deus Ex: Mankind Divided‘s launch trailer came out this week in anticipation of the game’s August 23 release. In it, protagonist Adam Jensen shows off his latest combat augmentations in the trailer, and we’re here to explain the best of them.
Watch the trailer above, then read on to find out what Adam’s cyborg enhancements actually do.
Retinal HUD
Adam’s augmented eyes give him several big advantages, including immunity to flashbang grenades and the ability to read his enemy’s movements, but the most immediate bonus is his visual overlay HUD that displays vital information about enemies and the world at large. And it’s a heck of a lot cooler than Google Glass.
Cool Shades
Despite his cyborg eyes and borderline supernatural combat armor augmentations, science has yet to find an adequately cool replacement for Adam’s face-mounted sunglasses. We’re not sure if never losing your sunglasses again is worth having them mounted on your face, but we’ll let you be the judge.
Glass-Shield Cloaking System
The cloaking system is a powerful tool for players interested in playing stealthily, though its high energy consumption means it can only be used in short bursts. It can also be used reactively to escape if you’ve gathered the attention of a bunch of guards.
Cybernetic Arm Prosthesis
Adam has a number of arm augmentations he can use, including instant take-downs and punching through walls, though the most obvious one is illustrated here. Move/Throw Heavy Object powers up Adam’s arms so he can move items blocking his way — or in this case, dudes in his way.
Icarus Landing System
The Icarus Landing System allows Adam to blunt damage from long falls via an electromagnetic field, which can open up hidden paths in some levels. It also looks cool as heck, which doesn’t hurt.
Nanoblade
It may not exactly be high tech, but Adam’s retractable arm blades give him the ability to consistently kill bad guys dead in hand-to-hand combat. Mankind Divided gives the blades an upgrade, though, and Adam will also be able to use them as projectiles as well as melee weapons.
Wrist-Mounted Canon
Here’s a new one. Adam’s robotic hand folds down to reveal an integrated P.E.P.S. cannon that can push enemies across a room, as soon here. It’ll be a handy new non-lethal takedown option.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided launches next week, August 23, on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
