The Deadpool 2 trailer is finally here! If you haven’t watched it yet, give it a look-see. It’s a delightfully naughty parody of The Joy of Painting, a PBS show hosted by the beloved Bob Ross. But, there are some quick snippets of actual film footage that we’re going to pick apart here.
So, let’s get crackin’!
What’s Going On Here?
Our first shot shows Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) pulling a gun out of his hip holster. We also get an out-of-focus shot of Weasel (T.J. Miller) in the background and he’s holding a gun. Looks like he’s going to get in on the action this time around!
Someone’s about to get perforated. Looks like we might get some sunnier exterior locations this time around. Fun!
Now, this is interesting. This looks like the warehouse facility from the first shot. Note the similar background paneling. Is this some kind of mutant containment facility? Those boxes could be caged enclosures and the people kneeling on the ground could be mutants. Some later footage will give us a better idea as to some plot points.
Looks like Deadpool and Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) are having a nice little home life. I wonder if we’ll get another… ahem, montage of “activity” in this movie.
Hey, it’s Dopinder (Karan Soni)! Looks like Wade’s favorite cab driver is becoming an official member of the team. And he seems a lot less reserved now. Plus, notice Deadpool’s duct-taped arm. Some wounds are on the way to ol’ Wade.
It’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and she’s looking a lot less like Ripley in Alien³. Still, she hasn’t lost her abrasive, angsty personality. Love the new take on the X-Men suit.
This is quite the sequence. Wade lands on top of a car, runs at another car while screaming, and rams into it. He manages to cause some serious damage. It’s worth noting that he seems genuinely mad in this sequence. Could it be possible that these people caused something very bad to happen to Wade? Could it involve Vanessa? IS Vanessa not going to make it to Deadpool 3?
This is the shot of the trailer. We’ve got newcomer Julian Dennison standing in the middle of a burning room. He’s surrounded by propaganda posters advocating for some kind of radical group. Is this an anti-mutant meeting that Dennison burns to the ground with pyrokinetic powers? We don’t know who Dennison is playing, but it looks like he’s going to be an undeniable badass.
Here is our first look at Domino (Zazie Beetz) in action. Looks like this might be the same burning building that Dennison is in. Are they on the same team? Are they both attacking this potential mutant hate group?
We get a shot of a huge armored vehicle barreling into a house or building. Is this involved with the group that’s putting mutants in those cages? Looks like mutants getting taken against their will might be the big antagonistic force behind this story.
Hell yes, Blind Al (Leslie Uggams) is back! She was one of the highlights of the first movie and this is just a fun, cool shot to reminds folks that she’s returning. Let’s hope she also gets in on some of the gunplay.
In case you needed more proof that Weasel and Dopinder are gonna be even more prominent, here’s a shot for you. I’m betting they will be hilariously inept at such shenanigans.
This is the funniest shot in the trailer. Is this Deadpool crashing a funeral? Or did they have a funeral for Deadpool and he’s not quite as dead as they thought? My money is on the former, and this could even be the opening of the movie. Deadpool hides in a casket to surprise someone he’s got a contract on. This is gonna be a fun bit.
Looks like Deadpool is expanding his arsenal in Deadpool 2. A chainsaw scene? Yes. Please.
Are those chimichangas? Or possibly some toaster strudels? Someone on the Internet needs to sort out this mystery!
The final shot of the trailer promises some serious firepower. Fun fact: the scene in the original movie where Deadpool forgets all of his guns was made due to budgetary constrictions. The movie just couldn’t afford to film a big shootout, so they rewrote the scene to strip Wade of his weapons. Thanks to the first film’s success, it looks like we’re going to actually get the big gunfight everyone wanted in the original.
We didn’t get any shots of Cable in the trailer, but we bet they’re saving him for the first full look at the movie. Deadpool 2 hits theaters on June 1, 2018. We can’t wait.
