Valentine’s Day is here, and love is in the air. Chocolates, red roses, and thoughtful gifts are a must during this holiday. However, there are some that show their passion for what many may consider creepy. So here are seven anime characters and their creepy obsessions.
Noritada Amemiya and Kanako Yuzuki (Mouryou No Hako)
In 1952, a string of unusual murders takes place in Musashino and Mitaka. At the center of these killings is the beautiful Kanako Yuzuki. The young woman has many admirers, but one that stands out is her guardian Noritada Amemiya.
One night, Kanako gets pushed in front of a train, leaving her severely injured. To save her life, she goes through several biological and mechanical experiments. And now her head — the only part of her body that’s still alive — is inside a box. Despite not having the rest of her body, Amemiya is still in love with her. His fixation leads him to steal Kanako’s head, killing anyone who would stop him.
Yuno Gasai and Yukiteru Amano (Future Diary)
Yuno Gasai is the queen of yandere. Her obsession with Yukiteru Amano holds no bounds. At first, Yuno seems to be a sweet and shy teenager. However, behind this facade is a ruthless, bloodthirsty murderer who kills anyone that interferes with her and Yukiteru’s survival.
Her mental disorder originated with the abuse and eventual death of her parents. However, Yuno is still in denial and acts like they’re still alive. Her desperation gets the best of her and Yukiteru is the only person who gives Yuno any chance of hope. Now that he’s given her something to live for, Yukiteru becomes the primary focus in her life.
Shuu Tsukiyama and Ken Kaneki (Tokyo Ghoul)
Ghouls eating humans is one thing. But, a ghoul eating both humans and ghouls is an obsession that only Shuu Tsukiyama could harvest. At first glance, Shuu conveys the impression of a sophisticated, intelligent, and fashionable ghoul. But these are tricks to lure his victims, both human and ghoul, into a final meal.
Now, a potential meal has caught Shuu’s eye: Ken Kaneki. Captivated by Kaneki’s scent and taste, Tsukiyama devises many plans to get the young man on his plate. But over time, he comes to care for Kaneki and even goes through a severe depression after Kaneki’s apparent death.
The Entire Female Cast and Maebara Keiichi (Higurashi When They Cry)
At first glance, Higurashi seems like a cute series with kawaii and moe anime girls. However, when it comes to Keiichi and those that stand in their way, there’s a dark and sanguinary side to these young girls.
During the girls’ club activities, they challenge each other with silly games that have no dire consequences to them. However, when the curse of Oyashiro-sama starts to take hold, no one is safe in the village of Hinamizawa.
The girls’ fascination with their new friend ranges from being a potential love interest to a big brother, and all of them want a piece of Keiichi — literally.
Sekai Sainoji, Kotonoha Katsura, and Makoto Itou (School Days)
Never mess with a girl’s heart or else your head might end up in a box. Sekai Sainoji sets up a boy she likes, Makoto, with her best friend, Kotonoha Katsura. She genuinely seems happy for them at first, but as time goes by, Sekai can no longer contain her feelings for Makoto. And ultimately, they sleep together, while he’s still dating Kotonoha.
Despite the cheating, Kotonoha can’t stop obsessing about her ex. So, she starts stalking him and destroying those who might steal Makoto away.
Undeterred by Makoto’s lying, cheating, and public embarrassment, he and Sekai stay together. That is until Makoto cheats on Sekai again and he winds up with a knife in the gut and his head chopped off.
Shiro and Ganta Igarashi (Deadman Wonderland)
Deadman Wonderland starts out when a mysterious man (Red Man) slaughters a classroom of students. The only survivor of the massacre, Ganta, is accused and convicted and is sentenced to the amusement park prison known as Deadman Wonderland.
Unfortunately, he discovers that the person responsible for his imprisonment is none other than his childhood friend, Shiro. Her obsession with Ganta was not about love or wanting to kill him. In reality, the bloodbath was to infect Ganta with a red crystal. As with his Deadman powers, he would be able to kill her. However, her obsession with Ganta and killing herself goes beyond the edge of sanity, leaving countless dead bodies.
