Today’s Call of Duty: WWII reveal brought with it the official trailer. Check it out below:
April 21, 2017 Update:
It seems like Call of Duty: WWII is quickly becoming the worst-kept secret in gaming. Thanks to the savvy folks at Charlie Intel, we now have a few low-resolution screenshots of this upcoming release. Check them out below.
Original Story:
Today, Activision confirmed the new Call of Duty will indeed take place during World War II by officially announcing the aptly-named Call of Duty: WWII.
According to Activision’s full announcement, “Call of Duty returns to its World War II roots with Call of Duty: WWII, developed by Sledgehammer Games. More details are incoming during the game’s Worldwide Reveal livestream on Wednesday, April 26 featuring Sledgehammer Games co-studio heads and founders Michael Condrey and Glen Schofield. Fans will be able to tune in to get a first look at Call of Duty: WWII and get intel on the studio’s vision for the game.”
Those who’ve followed the Call of Duty series from its 2003 PC origins know the series had its roots planted in World War II until 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare set the famous FPS on a different trajectory. And, interestingly enough, this move helped Call of Duty stand out from the crowd since so many games used World War II as their backdrop in this era. Now that this setting is much less ubiquitous, it’ll be interesting to see if FPS fans greet this back-to-basics approach with open arms.
Of course, this announcement didn’t come as too big of a surprise to anyone who witnessed February’s leak of marketing materials that pretty much spilled the beans for Activision. Even if you missed this news, it was more than obvious Call of Duty needed to make a change soon. While the series will never not be popular, its jump to the future with the last few games didn’t turn as many heads as Activision wanted.
For now, all we have is a title and the date of Activision’s reveal stream, so be sure to check back with Fandom for more on Call of Duty: WWII.
