Sony is building its Spiderverse one film at a time. We already know about the Venom movie with Tom Hardy, but now we’ve got some more info on the Black Cat & Silver Sable spinoff.
The film will be titled Silver and Black. Not incredibly original but streamlined. Since these characters aren’t as known to mainstream audiences, expect the marketing to really push their superhero alter-egos to the forefront. It wouldn’t be surprising if the actors cast in those roles drive some interest as well.
We also now know that Gina Prince-Bythewood is attached as director. This is worth getting excited about. Bythewood recently directed the pilot of Cloak & Dagger, so she’s had a taste of the Marvel world. She also wrote and directed Love & Basketball, the Secret Life of Bees, and Beyond the Lights. She is great at character dynamics and that makes her perfect for this kind of “buddy” film.
It’s going to be interesting to see where the Sony Spiderverse goes. Silver and Black sounds like a great start. It’s scheduled to start shooting this fall and release October 2018. We’ll keep our eyes and ears open for more.
