Hot off of the success of their recent resurrection of DOOM, Bethesda announced that they are rebooting their much-adored Quake series with a new installment due out next year. The game is called Quake Champions and id described it as a “competitive multiplayer shooter” meant to be played in an esports context.
Bethesda was tight-lipped about the game, only mentioning that it would have eight different characters, each with their own set of special abilities. Which begs the question: is Quake going to be Bethesda’s take on the class-based FPS genre, joining the likes of Team Fortress 2 and Overwatch?
id promised to reveal more at this year’s QuakeCon, which takes place August 4 – 7.
