Alien: Covenant has a lot of ground to cover in terms of story. Not only is it continuing to work its way towards Alien but it also has to fill in the gaps between itself and the previous film, Prometheus. Fans have been wondering exactly how the two movies link up. Well, director Ridley Scott dropped an interesting prologue titled “The Crossing” at an Alien Day event. Why You Needed to Watch That
You might be thinking, “Well, I don’t need to see that. It’ll all be in the movie!” Actually, most of it won’t. Reportedly, all of those scenes between David and Elizabeth Shaw are not in the finished version of Alien: Covenant. There isn’t a lot out about why that is, but rumors have circulated that it might have to do with Noomi Rapace’s eventual credit to the movie. It’s possible that Shaw will have a very diminished role in the film, or they might be saving her for some kind of bigger reveal.
However, the sequence that shows David appearing at the Engineer homeworld and getting ready to drop all those vials of black goo is definitely in the film. Looks like he’s not as stoked about meeting our makers. It’s clear by now that David has his own God complex going on, and this is his version of some Old Testament punishment. Looks like the franchise continues to change and adapt newer and bigger ideas. The Alien movies have always been good at that.
Alien: Covenant could potentially be the movie fans wanted out of Prometheus. We’ll find out if that’s the case when it hits theaters on May 19.
