Landmark, the “build anything, anywhere” sandbox-styled MMORPG from Sony Online Entertainment, has begun to come into its own as its beta moves along. As the game has progressed throughout its beta, SOE has introduced a number of new systems and features into the game, including the recent addition of one of the most requested features from the community: Player-vs-Player! With the inclusion of PvP, Landmark gives players a new dimension in which to experience the game – but if you think that’s all that SOE has in the pipeline, you’d be sorely mistaken.
Player-vs-Player is just one aspect in a larger overhaul plan for Landmark that will introduce new systems and mechanics, as well as additional content and more items to build. A fair amount of the new content centers around combat, including armor and weapons that can be crafted on the Forge. At the time of this article’s publish, there are three main weapons in the game: Conjurer’s Staff, Marksman’s Bow, and Soldier’s Blade. More weapons will be introduced into the game at a later time, of course, but right now SOE is understandably focused on testing each weapon type to ensure they work as intended, and the feedback they receive from players in the beta will be vital towards perfecting the feel of combat in the game.
Each weapon includes two basic attacks…
Conjurer’s Staff
- Energy Burst, which fires orbs of energy at an enemy to deal a small amount of damage.
- Gravity Shock, an ability that stuns and damages all nearby enemies, and slows any foes caught in its gravity well.
Marksman’s Bow
- Quick Shot, a rapid-fire arrow that deals damage on impact. If an enemy is already marked with the weapon’s other attack, they’re also knocked backwards.
- Sniper’s Mark, an enchanted arrow that deals a heavy amount of damage and marks the first enemy hit.
Soldier’s Blade
- Slash, where you swing your blade and deal damage to all enemies in front of you.
- Battle Rush, where you charge forward to stun and damage any enemy you strike.
As we’ve already said, this is just the beginning of what players in Landmark can expect to see. If you want to have a quick look at what else is in the works for the game, go ahead and watch the below video:
As you can see, there is a lot to look forward to in the not-too-distant future, and as the game continues to evolve you can expect to see us continue to highlight all of the new additions. Of course, if you want to learn even more about the game you can head over to our Landmark Wiki, and you can sign up for the beta at the Official Landmark website.
